Water Dispenser Competition Design Principles
These principles are guides for what we are looking for in the designs:
History and Geography
The concept and design of the water dispenser should be deeply influenced by the history of Historic Diriyah, the cultural significance of water and the unique geography of the location. Blending the past and present, we reimagine the concept of the “Sabeel” a common practice of mosques and houses offering water to the public through installing outdoor water dispensers. This is an opportunity to honor the legacy of Historic Diriyah and create an identity.
Functionality
The dispenser is envisioned as a multifunctional installation that invites creative interaction and community engagement. While it can support uses like providing clean drinking water, watering plants, or assisting local wildlife, its purpose is to inspire thoughtful, inclusive design that reflects the needs and imagination of the community it serves.
Sustainability
It is encouraged to consider and explore the use of sustainable, locally sourced materials that respect both the environment and the cultural context. This approach supports mindful engagement with resources and reflects a broader commitment to sustainability.
